Fred and Dawn, and how this place happened
Two businesses, one building, and the same two people running it since 2009.
Started with a bathtub problem
The Medway Dog Wash opened in 2009 because washing a big dog in a home bathroom is a bad afternoon for everyone involved. Waist-high tubs, ramps, warm water already running, and someone else to clean up. It caught on.
TopDog Daycare followed in 2014, in the same building at Medway Mills. Customers kept asking what to do with their dog all day, and the space was already set up for dogs.
Fred and Dawn both grew up in Bellingham. They live in Douglas now, in a house with considerably more animals than people, which tells you roughly everything about how they feel regarding animals.
How we run the place
Dogs need a job
You can think of most dogs today as unemployed. Their main job is Couch Potato. A day of real play with the right group of dogs fixes more behavior problems than most things you can buy.
Say the rules out loud
Our policies on vaccinations, breeds, cutoff times and late fees are all published here rather than sprung on you at the desk. You should know what you are signing up for.
Answer the phone
Call to check on your dog mid-afternoon. We really do not mind. That is not a line, it is how we would want to be treated.
Veteran owned and operated
Fred was an F-15 crew chief in the United States Air Force and served during Desert Storm. The habits that came with that job, checking the thing that matters before it matters and keeping your paperwork straight, are still visible in how the kennel runs.
Everyone is welcome
Hablamos con gusto con nuestros clientes de habla hispana y hacemos todo lo posible para ayudarles.
We serve every customer regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, age or veteran status.
The people your dog actually spends the day with
The same people are here day after day. They know which dogs play well together, which one needs a quiet corner by mid-afternoon, and which one will try their luck at the gate. That is not something a rota of new faces can do.
Come meet them in person
Walk through the building, see the play floor, ask anything.
